In the last 10 years, vehicular networking research investigated the unique communication environment and behavior aspects of wireless LAN-based vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication and was centered on the IEEE 802.11p standardization. In this talk, we look at what we believe is still left for research: channel models and combined PHY/MAC/NET simulations, a final word on carrier sense multiple access (CSMA), and the need to properly understand and design congestion control of the radio channel.
